چکیده
HISTOLOGICAL EXAMINATION The round tumour consisted of chondromatous islands separated by loose, partly myxomatous connective tissue with areas containing fat cells, and clefts lined with small cylindrical or cuboid epithelial cells. Cilia were seen in some places on the surface of the epithelial cells. About three-quarters of the tumour consisted of this typical hamartoma-like picture, and the periphery was here well demarcated and surrounded by compressed lung tissue. Fig 1 An area from edge of tumour. In lower right corner is typical cartilage-containing hamartoma. Arrow shows typical malignant tumour tissue surrounding an island of cartilage. Haematoxylin and eosin X25 (original specification).

Malignant change in a benign pulmonary hamartoma.
Sarcomatous transformation in a longstanding, clinically silent hamartoma is reported. Malignant change occurred shortly after resection, suggesting that surgical manipulation may have played a part.
متن کاملPulmonary hamartoma with low FDG uptake: A case report
Introduction: Pulmonary hamartomas are the most common benign tumors of the lung. It usually shows no FDG uptake and has a low risk for malignant transformation. We present a rare case of pulmonary hamartoma with low Fluorodeoxyglucose uptake to call attention to the low malignancy potential of this benign tumor. Case presentation: 67-year old male patient on the preoperative evaluation for his...
متن کاملPulmonary hamartoma mimicking lung tuberculoma in tuberculosis patient – a case report
Pulmonary hamartomas are benign tumors, which represent abnormal mixture of fibrous connective tissue, hyaline cartilage, fat and bone as well as bronchial epithelial cells. Differential diagnosis of tuberculoma, malignant neoplasms and hamartoma is necessary. We present the tuberculosis patient with pulmonary hamartoma mimicking lung tuberculoma. The uncorrected diagnosis of tuberculoma was ma...
متن کاملEndobronchial hamartoma mimicking malignant lung tumor contralateral endobronchial metastasis
RATIONALE Endobronchial hamartoma, the most common benign lung tumor, is located in the bronchus, and it easily mimics lung cancer or bronchial metastasis. Endobronchial hamartoma can cause coughing, hemoptysis, and pulmonary infection; thus, it should be treated right away by surgery or fiberoptic bronchoscopy. PATIENT CONCERNS We report a rare case of endobronchial hamartoma in which the cl...
متن کاملProlonged Air Leakage Caused by Mesenchymal Cystic Hamartoma of the Lung
A 16-year-old girl was transferred to the department of thoracic and cardiovascular surgery because of a spontaneous pneumothorax with prolonged air leakage. Chest computed tomography demonstrated a cystic lesion measuring 2×3 cm and involving the left upper lobe. Left upper lobectomy was performed via video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. A pathologic examination of the specimen revealed a mes...
